In general, a safe investment would be one where investors are seeking minimum volatility and preservation of capital. In the past, I have opined that gold is probably the only honest currency globally. Even as I maintain that opinion from a preservation of capital point of view, there are reasons to consider the dollar as an integral part of a portfolio. This article discusses why the dollar will remain a safe investment in the years to come. I would like to start by mentioning that the dollar has been a strong currency in the last one year, and I have always opined that it is desirable to have a strong currency with purchasing power than having a currency glut with low purchasing power. The dollar index has surged from 80 to 96 in the last one year. While there can be some near-term weakness in the dollar due to relatively weak economic activity, I am bullish on the dollar compared to other major currencies globally that include the euro and the yen.
